Quilter, Reader, Traveller
Quilting is more than a hobby for me. My mantra is “Spread happiness one quilt at a time.” … and so I quilt. I often have more than one project on the go. It keeps my mind sharp and soothes my soul. I have gifted family members - sisters, sisters-in-law, godchildren, nieces and nephews on both sides with “happiness’ quilts. I have gifted friends and colleagues with ‘happiness’ quilts. I have sold quilts. I have quilted on commission. It is a labour of love.
Presently I have been more into baby quilts and lap quilts. I certainly don’t need any more queen sized quilts at home. I also make sets of placemats often using leftover blocks or strips from the large quilts. This is a good way to use up my stash of fabrics which has grown over the years.
I love to see the patterns take shape and the colours meld together. I love scrappy quilts. Travelling helped to grow my stash as visiting quilt shops and venues around the world is a true joy. These days I try to restrain myself only really buying fabric for my borders and backings. The goal is to reduce, reuse and recycle my beautiful materials and scraps.
Anyone can quilt. I don’t sew but I can quilt. All you need is the ability to sew a ¼ inch seam. I would recommend quilting as a hobby. Start small. Then go big! Become a quilter!
